Our Impact

The UF Lastinger Center is charged with supporting teaching and learning in early childhood, literacy, and mathematics by developing and administering programs that improve student achievement, providing professional learning and technical assistance for educators and school districts, and publishing research on teaching and learning.

Professional Learning

Lastinger Learning

Lastinger Learning is the UF Lastinger Center’s suite of research-based professional learning programs designed for educators of children from birth – 12th grade in early childhood, literacy and mathematics. Out work focuses on three critical educational milestones:

New Worlds Reading

By combining the excitement and anticipation of monthly at-home book delivery with family reading resources, New Worlds Reading aims to help children in Florida bolster literacy skills, build reading confidence, and foster a lifelong love of reading.

*Enrolled students scored up to 15% higher in reading assessment scores than their eligible non-enrolled peers at the final Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST) progress monitoring (PM) window of the school year, with greater differences among English Language Learner (ELL) students.

New Worlds Reading Parent

Florida Tutoring Advantage

During its 2024-2025 pilot, the Florida Tutoring Advantage partnered with 13 vendor partners to support 17 school districts in providing high-impact tutoring services to over 3,500 students.

In 2025, the Florida Legislature approved funding for the Florida Tutoring Advantage to expand its effort to boost student achievement in reading and mathematics for 35 or more Florida school districts.

Khanmigo Partnership

Through a partnership with Khan Academy and school districts across the state, the Lastinger Center has implemented F.S. 1002.321(3) to extend high-quality learning support at scale. Through Khanmigo, students are empowered through interactive learning experiences, and teachers leverage AI to enhance instruction.
